In our podcast, we speak about what attracted Carina to apply for IAWA’s Scholarship and how IAWA’s Scholarship is “life changing” for her beyond the financial support, which reflects her gratitude to the IAWA community and the investment that it makes to build the pipeline of the next generation of leaders. IAWA Scholarship Recipient Laura Camila Ruiz Pedroza is a lawyer specializing in public law. She is also a reservist officer in the Aerospace Force in Colombia. Currently, she is studying to obtain a LLM in Air and Space Law at McGill University in Canada, because she loves space law. She has done some research and publications related to space war, capacities, and dangerous exercises that some countries have done with anti-satellite weapons among others. She has worked in her country on some law projects that were intended to create the National Space Agency.

Moreover, in the Aerospace Force, Laura worked on space projects for kids. With the LLM she intends to be involved directly with organisms that can prevent a world war, this time with space technology usage and she wants to create policies that create real opportunities for countries who cannot access directly to the space due to their level of poverty.

In this podcast, we focus on how to expand our mindset. René divulges that she started her podcast series Leadership in Aviation because it was something that “scared” her; however, being outside of her comfort zone enabled her to “stretch herself” while simultaneously developing community. She speaks about the importance of overcoming “limiting beliefs” and replacing them with “liberating truths” and shares a personal example that highlights how we can all let go of saying “no” and instead just do it.

Okay . and Day Event to Be Held December 9th at Tulsa Tech thanks to Spirit AeroSystems, Inc. In honor of the significant impact women have made to aviation in our State and to our industry, the Oklahoma Aeronautics Commission in community partnership with Tulsa International Airport, the Air and Space Forces Association, and Spirit AeroSystems will commemorate the state’s sixth annual Oklahoma Women in & Aerospace Day with an in-person luncheon at Tulsa Tech - Riverside Campus. They will welcome honored guest and keynote speaker Sam Marnick, Executive Vice President & Chief Operating Officer for Spirit AeroSystems.

The forum, reserved for Aviation and Aerospace enthusiasts and personnel, will provide an amazing opportunity to learn more about Aviation and Aerospace to encourage Oklahomans to dream big and find their passion in our exciting industry.

The history of Oklahoma Women in Aviation and Aerospace Day began in 2017 when the Aeronautics Commission presented a bill to the Oklahoma legislature, and it was enacted into law, to officially recognize the contribution of Oklahoma women in the State’s aviation and aerospace industry, on December 9th, annually.

The date marks the birth of the famous Chickasaw aviator, Pearl Carter Scott, of Marlow, Oklahoma. Scott learned to fly at the age of 13 under legendary aviator Wiley Post. She became the youngest pilot in the United States with her first solo flight on September 12, 1929, the same year that Amelia Earhart established the female group, the The Ninety-Nines, Inc, International Organization of Women Pilots. https://bit.ly/3t5BG3Q Raising Aviation Teens - Program Info and Resources Raising Aviation Teens Women in Aviation International Sisters of the Skies Black Aviators Network

I've analyzed the long-awaited Youth Access to Aviation Jobs in America Task Force (YIATF) report published recently. The report provides a daunting but energizing road map for solving -- if we can put our parochial interests aside. We must join as one to achieve its recommendations including the organizational structure, how to pay for programs, who needs to be involved and what needs to be done.
Bottom line -- the industry cannot wait for someone else to solve workforce shortages as it has in the past. It must organize itself into achieving what it can on its own while pushing for Congressional and changes critical to achieving the Task Force visions.
